WhatsApp is currently testing a feature to allow users share voice messages as status updates

New camera modes and blocking shortcuts are two additions that WhatsApp will soon get. In addition to these two capabilities, WhatsApp is also developing a third. The most recent reports state that WhatsApp is working on a new feature that would let users post voice messages as status updates.

The types of media that can be shared as WhatsApp status updates are currently limited. Users of WhatsApp will now be able to publish their voice messages as status updates thanks to the new functionality. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has been working on this feature for a while; the first indications of it appeared in July 2022.

Currently, WhatsApp is distributing the feature to a small group of beta users. You can download the most recent beta version of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store if you are a beta tester. The same part where voice notes are sent also allows you to configure voice messages as status updates. Long tapping the “Send” button, which now reads “Mic,” starts recording your voice message, much like you would when sending a voice message to a WhatsApp chat.

All persons you’ve given permission to view your photo/video status updates on WhatsApp will be able to hear your voice message in the update. The feature will be available for 24 hours and be end-to-end encrypted. There is a 30-second time limit on recordings. Please be aware that the voice message in the status will not be audible to your contacts who are using an earlier version of WhatsApp.
