Protecting your system has way too many aspects. Different users use different platforms, apps, tools etc. to suite their needs and liking. Moreover, attackers can come calling from various sources and you have to ensure that vulnerabilities are always plugged. It is only obvious you need apps that can take care of these tasks for you. And when these are open source, well that’s even better!
1.ClamWin Free Antivirus

ClamWin is a Free Antivirus program for Microsoft Windows 8/ 7 / Vista / XP / Me / 2000 / 98 and Windows Server 2012, 2008 and 2003. It comes with an easy installer and open source code. It is based on ClamAV engine and uses GNU General Public License by the Free Software Foundation. ClamWin Free Antivirus however does not include an on-access real-time scanner. You need to manually scan a file in order to detect a virus or spyware.

ClamAV is an open source (GPL) antivirus engine designed for detecting Trojans, viruses, malware and other malicious threats. It is the de facto standard for mail gateway scanning.
