The Xperia XZ Premium is the first smartphone with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 SoC to launch in India.
First unveiled at MWC 2017, Sony Xperia XZ Premium sports a 5.5-inch 4K IPS LCD display of 2160×3840 pixel resolution. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 835 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There’s also space for memory expansion via microSD cards.
Running Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, the Xperia XZ Premium is secured with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 both at the front at the back.
For imaging duties, the Xperia XZ Premium has a 19MP rear camera with OIS, PDAF and LED flash. Having a sensor size of 1/2.3″, the smartphone’s camera is capable of recording 4K resolution video at 30fps, as well as HD quality super slow-mo video at 960fps. There’s also a 13MP front-facing snapper, which can record video in Full HD resolution.
The flagship device has an entire gamut of sensors on-board, including a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, barometer, compass and colour spectrum meter. It includes stereo speakers for an enhanced audio experience. Connectivity options include everything from 4G LTE to USB Type-C, with a 3,230mAh battery (having Quick Charge 3.0 support) rounding off the spec sheet.
Sony recently launched two new G-Series Professional Solid State Drives (SSD), having storage capacities of 960GB and 480GB capacities. These are meant for external video recording devices docked to camcorders or high-performance DSLRs.
Using the company’s Error Correction Code technology, the 960GB G Series SSD achieves up to 2,400 TBW (terabytes written), while the 460GB drive can reach 1,200 TBW, resulting in less frequent replacement.
According to the company, 2,400 TBW translates to about 10 years of use for the SV-GS96, if data is fully written to the drive on an average of five times per week. The flagship device has an entire gamut of sensors on-board, including a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, barometer, compass and colour spectrum meter.
