Apple’s parental control feature was broken

Apple introduced the Screen Time feature in 2018, allowing users to manage their time on devices and enabling parents to restrict apps and screen time on their children’s iPhones and iPads through the Downtime feature. However, recent reports revealed that some users, particularly parents, faced issues with the parental control feature.
Users complained that the time limits they set to restrict their kids’ device usage were not taking effect, and their children were getting extra time on apps. Some even claimed that restrictions on adult content were not being implemented as expected. The problem seems to have persisted since December 2022, with reports on an Apple discussion page dating back to July 28.
Apple acknowledged the issue and stated that an update is in the works to address it. The company takes these reports seriously and is actively working on improving the situation.
To enable Downtime, which restricts access to selected apps and features during a specific period, users can follow these steps: Go to Settings > Screen Time, turn on Screen Time (if not already enabled), tap Downtime, and select the desired Downtime duration or schedule. During Downtime, users can only access calls, messages, and allowed apps, providing better control over device usage.
