WhatsApp Introduces Meta AI Chatbot to Indian Users

WhatsApp has introduced its Meta AI chatbot to selected users in India. This new feature, powered by generative AI technology, allows users to engage in conversations and ask questions on various topics. Additionally, it offers suggestive prompts to guide users through the interaction.

The rollout of WhatsApp’s Meta AI chatbot brings a new dimension to the messaging platform in India. The Meta AI icon has been spotted by some users in the main chat list, signaling the availability of the feature. Based on the Large Language Model Meta AI (Llama), this chatbot enables users to initiate conversations on a wide range of subjects.

Recently, tech enthusiasts at Gadgets 360 had the opportunity to explore this AI-driven feature. Upon opening the Meta AI chat, users are greeted with a verified badge and the hashtag “#with Llama#”. The interface presents users with various prompts, encouraging them to engage with Meta AI. These prompts cover diverse topics, such as imagining scenarios like a car race on Mars or setting healthy life goals.

The Meta AI icon, positioned alongside other options like the Camera and New Chat, serves as a gateway to this innovative feature. Its design bears a resemblance to Microsoft’s Cortana assistant, adding a familiar touch to the user experience.

Currently, the Meta AI feature is available in select countries and supports the English language. Upon initiating a conversation with Meta AI, users receive a notification explaining that messages from Meta AI and other characters are generated by artificial intelligence (AI) through a service provided by Meta. Moreover, Meta AI can only read and respond to chats that mention @MetaAI, ensuring privacy and security for users’ personal messages and calls.

For those interested in interacting with Meta AI, the process is straightforward. Users can start a chat by tapping on the circular icon located at the top right of the main chat list in WhatsApp. After reading and accepting the terms, users can choose a suggested prompt or type their own to initiate the conversation. WhatsApp also allows users to provide feedback on Meta AI-generated responses by tapping and holding on the message, selecting ‘Good response’ or ‘Bad response,’ and providing additional comments.

Overall, the introduction of WhatsApp’s Meta AI chatbot represents a significant advancement in conversational AI technology. By leveraging generative AI capabilities, WhatsApp aims to enhance user engagement and provide a more interactive messaging experience. As the feature continues to roll out to more users, it is expected to further enrich the communication landscape within the WhatsApp ecosystem.
