OnePlus 5 pop-up events announced in 4 cities in India

OnePlus is all set to launch its newest flagship smartphone – OnePlus 5 – in India on June 22. The company has now announced that it will be holding pop-up events in various cities across the world. As for India, the events will be held in four cities – New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad – from June 23 to June 25.

The company said that the pop-up events will give users an exclusive chance to experience and buy the OnePlus 5, but stocks will be limited.

For those unaware, OnePlus 5 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and run Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. To be exclusive to Amazon India, it’ll come in two RAM variants – 6GB and 8GB.

Recently, a new teaser indicated that OnePlus 5 will be more compact in size than OnePlus 3T. The teaser image shows a OnePlus 3T smartphone kept over the OnePlus 5, completely hiding the latter in its shadow.

“Look into the shadows. What do you 5ee?” says the company’s Twitter post.

Though no other details about the smartphone has been shared, CEO Pete Lau recently said in a Weibo post that OnePlus 5 will be one of the thinnest flagship smartphones out there.

Although no specific measurements are given, it can be assumed that the smartphone will be thinner than the OnePlus 3T, which is 7.3mm thick. For reference, Samsung Galaxy S8 and the iPhone 7 Plus are 8mm and 7.3mm thin. Motorola’s last year Moto Z flagship is 5.19mm thick.

Recently, a report surfaced online suggesting that OnePlus will not be updating its older OnePlus 2 smartphone. A statement provided by OnePlus’ customer support in response to a query revealed that the company plans to discontinue Android updates for OnePlus 2.
