OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 will get Android O, confirms CEO

While announcing that the production of OnePlus 3T has been halted, the company’s CEO Pete Lau said in a forum post that the company will continue to support both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T with software updates.
“So rest assured that we’ll continue to bring more software updates and support to the OnePlus 3 and 3T,” read the forum post.
Now, building on that statement, Lau has announced that both the smartphones will get the newest Android OS version, Android O.
Lau tweeted, “A lot of you have been asking, so I’m proud to say Android O will come to OnePlus 3 and 3T.”
Although nothing else has been mentioned, it is safe to assume that at least the upcoming OnePlus 5 will get Android O. However, it’ll almost certainly launch with Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. The confirmation may also mean that the Chinese technology company has already started working on the new operating system, introduced by Google earlier this year.
Google’s next big release – Android O beta – has entered Developer Preview 2. The search giant made the announcement at its recently-concluded annual developer’s conference – I/O.
Android O succeeds the current Android 7.0 Nougat. At I/O, Google also provided a sneak peek into some of the feature that’ll be coming with the new Android version.
Some of the Android O features that the OnePlus smartphones will get are Notification badges, Smart text selection, System optimizations, Battery boost and autofill with Google Chrome.
Android O could also be taken as the second confirmation by the company for its OnePlus 5 smartphone, after it recently confirmed that the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 SoC.
