Motorola launches Moto Z2 Force smartphone with ShatterShield display, Snapdragon 835 SoC

Right on schedule, Motorola has made its much-awaited Moto Z2 Force smartphone official. Launched at an event in New York City, the handset succeeds last year’s Moto Z Force. As part of the Lenovo-owned company’s modular Z line-up, Moto Z2 Force is compatible with ‘MotoMods’. That said, the smartphone’s highlight is its signature ShatterShield display.

Packing in a fully-loaded spec sheet, the flagship-class Z2 Force is crafted from 7000 series aluminum. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 835 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There’s another variant of the smartphone that’ll be available outside the US, and it’ll have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. A dedicated memory expansion slot good for microSD cards of up to 256GB is there as well. The smartphone runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, enhanced with Motorola’s useful software tweaks.

Gracing the facade of Moto Z2 Force is a 5.5-inch QuadHD AMOLED touchscreen, which has a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels and a pixel density of around 534ppi. Below the display lies a pill-shaped fingerprint sensor.

For those who like to click photos and shoot videos, the Z2 Force includes a dual-camera setup at the back, making it the first Motorola smartphone to have the feature. The two 12MP sensors (one RGB and one monochrome) of Moto Z2 Force’s dual-camera system are complemented by laser and phase detection autofocus, two-tone dual-LED flash, and optical image stabilization. As one would expect from a flagship smartphone, 4K video recording (@30fps) is included in the mix as well. At the front is a 5MP selfie shooter, with a two-tone dual-LED flash of its own.

Moto Z2 Force includes a whole array of modern connectivity features, ranging from 4G LTE and dual-band Wi-Fi to Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC. There’s a USB Type-C port at the bottom, but unfortunately no 3.5mm audio port. The smartphone isn’t water-resistant, but has nanocoating to protect itself against spills.
Backing up the whole package is a non-removable 2,730mAh battery, with support for Quick Charge technology.
