Humane introduces the ‘Ai Pin’ digital assistant without a display

San Francisco-based Humane has introduced its inaugural product, the Ai Pin, a compact digital assistant. Shaped like a square, the device can easily be attached to clothing or surfaces using a magnetic clip and also functions as a battery pack.

Fueled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, it utilizes a camera, depth, and motion sensors to observe its surroundings. The Pin is designed without a screen, relying primarily on voice-based interactions, while it also features a green laser projector for displaying information on the user’s hand and supports gesture-based commands through its touchpad.

Unlike continuous recording, the Pin requires manual activation, indicated by a Trust Light when recording is in progress. Running on the Cosmos system, the Pin calls upon various AIs and tools, with reports suggesting that GPT-4 powers the device. In addition to real-time translation of spoken conversations between English and Spanish, the Pin offers access to internet-based AI services from Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, and others.

It can summarize daily calendars, messages, and health data, providing features like personalized message composition, email inbox summaries, food identification for nutritional details, Tidal music streaming with an AI DJ, and AI-centric photography features.

The device has a laser ink display with 720p resolution, a touchpad with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, a custom-designed magnetic array for wear, and an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, among other specifications. The Ai Pin weighs 34.2g, while the battery booster weighs 20.5g. Users can view photos taken with the device on Humane’s web app.
