Google Pixel’s QR code scanner not working for some users

Google has introduced an in-built QR code scanner for Pixel devices in Android 13, eliminating the need for users to download a separate app. However, some Pixel owners have reported that the QR code scanner is not functioning properly. According to reports on Google’s support forums and Reddit, users have experienced issues where the camera fails to open when the scanner tile is tapped, resulting in a blank screen. This problem seems to be affecting specific models, including Pixel 5, Pixel 4a, and Pixel 4a 5G.

The cause of the issue is believed to be recent updates, and Google is aware of the problem and investigating it. In the meantime, some users have suggested a temporary workaround of clearing the cache data on Google Play Services, which has reportedly resolved the issue for some individuals. Alternatively, users can utilize other first-party apps like the Google Camera app or Google Lens, both of which also have QR code scanning capabilities.

In terms of Android adoption, Google has announced that Android 13 is already installed on approximately 15% of active devices globally, while Android 11 remains the most common version. Additionally, Google has released the third beta version of Android 14, with the stable version expected to introduce new features such as a Battery Health feature.
