Facebook Exploring Star Ratings For Pages

R1FT52847PM1192013Facebook seems to be planning to augment the ‘like’ buttons for pages with a star rating system. According to a Techcrunch report, the world’s largest social network has been testing the feature for the desktop version of the website. Reports say that being in the testing phase, the feature is available only to a small section of users. This is something Facebook does often when it needs to test a new feature out.

According to a statement by the company, Facebook said, “We’re extending star ratings on Facebook from mobile to desktop — to make it easier for people to discover great businesses around them. This is beneficial for both businesses and consumers.”

The company also said, “Star ratings encourage more people to rate a business, making it eligible to appear in News Feed and help others discover a business they didn’t know about previously. For businesses themselves, this also leads to greater brand awareness.”

The rating businesses feature has been available on Facebook since 2012, but the change here is that they will be displayed now. Till now, Facebook never put the ratings up for display.
