COMICS

Comics like Chacha Chowdhury and Tinkle, among others, will be made available for free download in any part of the country over this weekend.

As part of the second edition of the Free Comic Book Weekend (FCBW), presented by Comic Con India, 15 titles will be available online for free download onto personal computers, mobiles tablets etc.

The first edition witnessed over 15,000 users download titles and organizers say they were aiming to push that number this year.

“This year there is a large variety of titles people can download and read for free. When you log in you can download 10 different versions of Amar Chitra Katha,” Jatin Varma, founder, Comic Con India said.

Main publishers participating this year are ACK, Campfire Graphic Novels, Pop Culture Publishing, Vimanika Comics, Diamond Comics, Chariot Comics, Orange Radius and Astute Media Vision.

Users can download comics series straight on their PC or using phone and tablet from Readwhere.com. The process is scheduled to go live tomorrow and end on May 4.

“This year a lot of focus will be on to get comic book lovers to read more, especially on their mobile and tablet devices. So the central focus this year is mobile and tablet comic reading. We will also be offering a set of titles for free and a larger set at a special weekend discount,” says Manish Dhingra, director and co-founder, Readwhere.com.

The portal would be offering a total of 15 titles from various publishers.

Users will have the option of choosing any five for free and the remaining would be available at a very nominal price as a bundle.

“This time the big publishers are coming with their own apps. So people can download their apps also,” says Varma.
