Checking out Acer’s refreshed Swift Edge 16 with AMD Zen 4 processors and a 120Hz display

Acer recently unveiled its latest laptop, the Acer Swift Edge 16, at Computex 2023. During the event, we had the opportunity to try out this new laptop along with other products from Acer.

The Acer Swift Edge 16 is part of Acer’s rebranding efforts, signifying its most premium line of laptops. It is an upgraded version of last year’s Swift Edge, featuring notable enhancements. Powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U processor based on Zen 4 architecture, this laptop offers impressive performance, with boost speeds of up to 5.1GHz. It also includes upgraded Radeon 780M graphics, utilizing RDNA3 technology and supporting AV1 encoding. The processor’s Ryzen AI capabilities contribute to on-device AI-powered experiences, including support for Windows Studio Effects.

One significant change in the Swift Edge 16 is the display. It now boasts a 3.2K OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, replacing the previous 4K 60Hz panel. Acer decided that the 4K resolution was unnecessary for this laptop and opted for a smoother visual experience instead. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures seamless on-screen motion.

In terms of connectivity, the Acer Swift Edge 16 has undergone improvements. The USB-C ports now support USB4, providing enhanced capabilities. Additionally, it is one of the first laptops to offer Wi-Fi 7 support, thanks to the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 platform. This laptop sets a milestone as the first Swift model to feature Wi-Fi 7.

Apart from these updates, the Acer Swift Edge 16 shares similarities with its predecessor. It weighs a mere 2.73 pounds, making it lightweight and easy to handle. The laptop retains the Olivine Black colorway from before, which can appear black under normal lighting but exhibits a greenish hue under intense illumination.
