After Microsoft, Google and Zoom, Cisco brings AI features to online meetings

Cisco, the digital communications company, has unveiled new summarization features in its web conferencing platform Webex. This announcement comes as technology giants compete to integrate generative AI into their products and services. Cisco aims to enhance productivity for its workforce by leveraging large language models (LLMs) across its Collaboration and Security portfolios. The company made this announcement during the ongoing Cisco Live event in Las Vegas, USA.

Jeetu Patel, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Security and Collaboration at Cisco, stated that Cisco has been utilizing AI for a considerable time. Now, the company is revealing its integration of generative AI into its current products, enabling customers to derive significant value and achieve highly secure and unparalleled work experiences. This development showcases Cisco’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to deliver innovative solutions to its customers.

Cisco is introducing “Catch Me Up” in Webex, their web conferencing platform, which allows users to quickly catch up on missed interactions such as meetings, calls, and chats. These summaries will include key points and action items, saving time for those who couldn’t attend the meeting. Cisco is also implementing summaries in Vidcast, their video messaging tool, which will provide highlights and chapters for easy navigation to important parts of the video.

This feature in Webex is comparable to Microsoft Teams’ GPT-powered recap and Google Meet’s summary feature. Additionally, Cisco is investing in AI and machine learning innovations to enhance security, including generative AI capabilities to simplify policy management and enhance threat response. This aligns with similar capabilities announced by Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai during I/O 2023.

Overall, Cisco is leveraging generative AI and investing in AI-driven security advancements to enhance productivity and provide a more comprehensive experience for their users.
