Zoom video calls can now be taken from Sony TVs

The trend of remote working, which saw a significant increase during the pandemic, is now gradually declining among companies. However, Sony has announced a new feature that will benefit users who continue to work from home or have hybrid work arrangements. Soon, Sony users will be able to attend virtual meetings from the comfort of their living room TVs. Sony’s Bravia range of TVs will be the first to support the upcoming Zoom for TV app on Google Play. This news comes after Apple’s announcement that FaceTime will be available for Apple TVs later this year.

To utilize this feature, users will need to purchase a separate accessory called the Bravia Cam, as Sony’s Bravia TVs do not come with built-in webcams. In addition to enabling Zoom calls, the Bravia Cam will also adjust sound and picture settings based on the user’s location and distance from the TV. It will allow users to control their TVs with hand gestures, eliminating the need for a remote.

The accessory will also include a proximity alert feature to detect if children are sitting too close and a power-saving mode that dims the screen when the TV is not in use.

Sony has stated that the Zoom for TV app will be available for Bravia TVs by early summer. The partnership aims to provide customers with a more immersive video communication experience on a large TV screen in their living rooms. Whether working from home, learning remotely, or catching up with friends and family, Sony’s initiative aims to keep people connected to those they care about.
