Xiaomi to launch Redmi 4 smartphone in India on May 16

Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi is all set to launch another smartphone in India. The company has sent out media invites for an event on May 16, where it is likely to launch its Redmi 4 smartphone. The invite reads, ‘Power in your hand, come join us for the next Redmi launch.’
Xiaomi Redmi 4 is successor to the company’s Redmi 3S smartphone that launched last year. The smartphone is likely to be priced under Rs 8,000. The smartphone is expected to have a metallic design (just like its predecessor) and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. Two versions of the smartphone are expected – 2GB RAM/16GB internal storage and 3GB RAM/32GB internal storage.
Recently, an online report claimed that Xiaomi will rollout next version of its MIUI, MiUI 9, in the second half of this year. The company later confirmed the news via its Weibo account.
According to a report on Chinese website Anzhuo, the company has sent email to app developers about the latest features of MIUI 9. The email states that the new UI layer will bring two new features to Xiaomi smartphones – split-screen and picture-in-picture.
The split-screen feature is part of Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, which was launched last year. It allows users to use two apps at the same time. Xiaomi is said to have conducted a poll where it was revealed that about 80% of the users like this feature.
The picture-in-picture is a functionality that’s present in Android O’s developer preview. It allows users to watch a video in a small window, while working on another app at the same time.
