WhatsApp is advancing its integration of AI-powered features by developing a privacy-first cloud infrastructure called Private Processing. This secure technology is designed to maintain end-to-end encryption while enabling advanced AI functionalities within the messaging app.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently working on a message summarisation feature, aimed at helping users catch up on missed messages. This feature, spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.15.12, will include a “Summarise with Meta AI” button above unread messages. The request will be sent to Meta’s servers, where the summarisation will take place using Private Processing, ensuring that users’ messages remain protected.
Another exciting feature in development is an AI-powered wallpaper generator. This tool will allow users to create custom chat wallpapers by entering text prompts. Found in the Wallpaper section under “Create with AI”, the feature will use Meta AI to generate images based on user input. WhatsApp reportedly plans to offer users options to refine prompts and generate additional designs, making chat personalization more dynamic.
While these two features are still in the pipeline, WhatsApp has begun testing a new tool for status updates. On the latest builds of WhatsApp for iOS (25.14.77) and Android beta (2.25.15.13), users are seeing interactive themed prompts for status posts. Similar to prompts found on Instagram and Facebook, users can now add prompts like “Add Yours” to their status, encouraging friends to post similar content—such as a photo collage from a specific month.
These innovations highlight WhatsApp’s ongoing push to combine AI capabilities with privacy and personalization. The Private Processing framework is a key element in ensuring secure, encrypted handling of user data even while enabling cloud-based AI features.
In addition to these updates, WhatsApp is reportedly working on more tools, including message translation, media quality settings, and sticker-based reactions, promising a smarter and more interactive messaging experience.
