Vivo Launches Its X5 Pro Smartphone With A 2.5 D Display

Vivo has finally taken the wraps off its all-new X5 Pro smartphone. The device appears to be a mid-range one, but certainly looks impressive with its 2.5 D glass screen, which sits above the display.
Indeed, it is the design of the X5 Pro that seems to be the highlight here as we mentioned in our previous report. It is that 2.5 D glass that literally curves all the way to the edges and ends with a lip just before the metal frame begins.

As for the internal hardware, there is nothing much to talk about here. Vivo seems to have focussed on the construction quality, which so far (at least on paper) has managed to impress us; even though its has some similarities with the iPhone 6.

We get a 5.2 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a layer of Gorilla Glass to protect it

Inside, we get a 64-bit, octa-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage that is expandable

The camera department is another highlight with a 13 MP primary and an 8 MP secondary unit that is capable of shooting 32 MP images using interpolation tech

  • We have the regular connectivity options including 4G / LTE bands as well
  • Lastly there is the battery, which is a 2,300 mAh one
  • The smartphone is powered by Vivo’s Funtouch OS 2.1 with Android 5.0 Lollipop as the base. Also unique to this smartphone from Vivo is the a special eye-recognition technology, which is supposed to make the device a lot more secure.

Vivo has not given out details about availability and pricing just yet, but expect the X5 Pro to fall in the Rs 20,000 – Rs 25,000 category because of its quality metal and glass construction.
