In a definitive vision for India’s technological future, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that India must secure its place among the top three global AI superpowers by 2047. Speaking at the 5-day India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, the Prime Minister emphasized a “human-centric” approach to artificial intelligence, rooted in the philosophy of Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhaye—ensuring technology serves the welfare and happiness of all.
Bridging the Digital Divide with AI
PM Modi highlighted that while the world fears AI might deepen social divides, India is strategically using it to dissolve them. From early tuberculosis detection at primary health centers to AI-powered personalized learning in regional languages for rural students, the technology is already transforming the “last mile.” He cited the Bharat Vistaar initiative and Amul’s real-time cattle health guidance as prime examples of how AI is being democratized to empower farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs across the country.
Addressing Risks: Bias, Safety, and Deepfakes
The Prime Minister issued a stern warning regarding the risks of AI, particularly gender and linguistic biases. He called for a global compact focused on safety-by-design, transparency, and strict prohibitions on the use of AI for deepfakes and criminal activities. Highlighting the launch of the IndiaAI Safety Institute, PM Modi stressed that as technology advances, the sense of global responsibility must grow proportionately to protect the social foundations of trust and identity.
From Consumers to Creators
Linking AI to the Viksit Bharat 2047 goal, PM Modi urged the nation to move from being mere technology consumers to global creators. With the IndiaAI Mission and a massive push for semiconductor manufacturing and data centers, he expressed confidence that India would “write its own code for the digital century.” He reassured the youth that AI would transform, not replace, the IT sector, opening up millions of high-quality jobs for those equipped with the right skills.
