Tata Motors Deploys 100 Starbus EVs for Urban Commuting in Bengaluru

Tata Motors is spearheading the electrification of Bengaluru’s public transportation system by delivering 100 technologically advanced Starbus EVs to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). This marks a crucial step in a larger agreement between TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd., a Tata Motors subsidiary, and BMTC. The comprehensive 12-year deal involves the supply, operation, and maintenance of 921 state-of-the-art 12-meter low-floor electric buses. The Tata Starbus EV, an indigenous innovation aligned with the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, showcases superior design and best-in-class features for sustainable and comfortable commuting.

The electric buses are developed on a next-gen architecture, equipped with advanced battery systems, ensuring safe, comfortable, and convenient intra-city travel in Bengaluru. The deployment of these zero-emission electric buses is part of Tata Motors’ commitment to environmentally friendly transportation, supporting the city’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

The Starbus EVs were inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri Siddaramaiah, along with other dignitaries, emphasizing the government’s commitment to embracing green and innovative solutions for public transportation. The vehicles boast features such as ease of boarding, comfortable seating, and driver-friendly operations, prioritizing safety and comfort for commuters.

Ms. G Sathyavathi, IAS, Managing Director, BMTC, expressed delight at inducting Tata Motors’ state-of-the-art buses, emphasizing their commitment to reducing the carbon footprint and improving the quality of life for citizens. The buses are expected to contribute not only to eco-friendly transportation but also to noise-free and comfortable mass mobility in Bengaluru.

Mr. Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, CEO and MD, TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited, highlighted the company’s commitment to providing cutting-edge, eco-friendly offerings. He expressed confidence that the buses would strengthen BMTC’s fleet, offering safe, comfortable, tech-driven, and energy-efficient public transportation. The Starbus EVs are a result of extensive testing and validation, reflecting Tata Motors’ dedication to delivering high-quality, reliable electric buses.

Tata Motors has a proven track record in the electric vehicle (EV) space, having supplied over 1,500 electric buses across various cities in India. These buses have collectively covered more than 10 crore kilometers with an impressive uptime of over 95%. The Starbus EV, with its full-electric drivetrain, optimizes energy consumption, resulting in low energy usage and operational costs.

The deployment of Tata Motors’ electric buses in Bengaluru is a positive step toward sustainable urban mobility, aligning with the global push for cleaner and greener transportation solutions.
