Samsung Galaxy Note 8 won’t feature on-screen fingerprint scanner, says company executive

Galaxy Note 8, Samsung’s upcoming flagship phablet may launch by the end of this year. And if the latest piece of news to surface online is to be believed, it won’t have a display-embedded fingerprint sensor.

The news has been reported by News1 website, citing a Samsung representative. The executive said, “We made every effort to install a display-integrated fingerprint sensor on Galaxy Note 8, but we decided not to install it on this strategic phone due to various technical limitations such as security.”

This indirectly means that at least one of the Galaxy Note 8 prototypes being tested by the company included the technology, but it didn’t work out well.

It has been further mentioned that even though Samsung won’t include on-screen fingerprint scanner in the Galaxy Note 8, the company will continue developing the technology in collaboration with biometric sensor manufacturer CrucialTec.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to sport a dual rear camera setup. According to several rumours, the phablet could arrive as early as August this year. Back in March, a website called CNBeta shared the schematics and specifications of the upcoming flagship phablet. Based on the schematics, it can be assumed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will share the same ‘Infinity’ display that’s in the S8 and S8+.

There is likely to be an S-Pen as well, which might come with better feature than its predecessors. A microSD/SIM card tray is also visible on the top, along with a dedicated button (most likely for activating Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant) on the left. The schematics detail a facial recognition sensor and a front facing camera as well.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is rumoured to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor under-the-hood. The SoC will likely be complemented by 6GB of RAM. However, nothing is known about the internal storage of the upcoming phablet.
