The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is delighted to welcome back Samiran Gupta as Vice President, Government and Intergovernmental Organization (IGO) Engagement for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, as well as Stakeholder Engagement, South Asia. In this pivotal role, Gupta will be responsible for overseeing ICANN’s engagement and participation in IGO and multilateral forums across the region.

Gupta brings with him a wealth of experience, spanning over three decades, in Government Affairs, Public Advocacy, Corporate Advisory, and Strategic Communication. His extensive professional journey has allowed him to exert a positive influence on regulatory and public policy issues throughout India and South Asia, ultimately leading to significant business and socio-economic impact.

His close association with internet technologies has seen him collaborate with companies in both the United States and India, contributing to their development and integration of the internet into our daily lives. During the creation of India’s digital public infrastructure, known as the India Stack, Gupta played a crucial role in providing strategic guidance to leading e-commerce companies on industry norms and fintech regulations.

As a seasoned business strategist, Gupta has been instrumental in advising large Indian conglomerates, as well as Fortune 500 companies, enabling them to achieve exponential growth in the Indian market. His expertise in handling regulatory and government engagements, as well as crisis management, has supported these corporations effectively.

Gupta’s previous tenure at ICANN showcased his strategic prowess, as he successfully secured the Government of India’s support for the multi-stakeholder model of Internet Governance in June 2015, earning him the prestigious Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Excellence Award in 2019.

Since February 2022, Samiran Gupta has been serving as the Head of Global Government Affairs for India and South Asia at Twitter, the world’s most trusted social media platform for government and political news. In this role, he partners with key government ministries, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Reserve Bank of India, the Election Commission of India, and other regulatory bodies to address critical policy issues.

Known for his collaborative and people-centric approach, Gupta is passionate about mentoring and leading dynamic teams. He is actively involved in various volunteering, mentoring, and sponsorship programs aimed at educating and empowering students, youth, and marginalized sections of society throughout India and South Asia.

His profound interest in internet technologies has led him to establish and manage the music label and online radio station, “IndiaBeat.” Gupta’s expertise has also earned him recognition as an expert panelist on Zee TV’s business news and a columnist for the Economic Times.

With an unwavering commitment to learning, listening, and personal growth, Samiran Gupta is poised to make a substantial impact in his return to ICANN, furthering the organization’s mission of maintaining a safe and accessible internet for all.
