At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a landmark framework titled the MANAV Vision. Designed to ensure that artificial intelligence remains a force for global good, the initiative emphasizes ethical accountability, inclusivity, and national sovereignty.
Addressing a global audience of policymakers and tech innovators, the Prime Minister defined “MANAV” (meaning human) through five core pillars:
-
M (Moral & Ethical): AI development must be rooted in ethical guidance.
-
A (Accountable): Establishing transparent rules and robust oversight for governance.
-
N (National Sovereignty): Ensuring data rights remain with the originating country.
-
A (Accessible & Inclusive): Preventing monopolies by making AI a tool for all.
-
V (Valid & Legitimate): Requiring AI systems to be lawful and verifiable.
Focus on Safety and Innovation
Prime Minister Modi issued a strong call for safeguards, particularly emphasizing that the AI landscape must be “child-safe and family-guided.” He noted that as humans and machines begin to “co-create and co-evolve,” policy clarity and safety are paramount.
The summit also served as a stage for domestic achievement, with the PM announcing that three Indian companies have launched new AI models and apps, showcasing the nation’s burgeoning youth talent.
A Call for Global Partnership
Under the philosophy of “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya” (Welfare for all, Happiness for all), India is positioning itself as a leader for the Global South. PM Modi invited the world to “design and develop in India, deliver to the world,” cementing the country’s role as a primary hub for responsible AI innovation.
