Built on the company’s proprietary “dreaming” background technology, the upgraded system is engineered to seamlessly synthesize, organize, and cross-reference vital background data from historical chats. This prevents the system from generating stale, contradictory, or repetitive responses during extended user interactions.
In a bid to make advanced personalization accessible to a broader audience, OpenAI successfully implemented computational optimizations that sliced backend server demands by five times. This massive efficiency boost allows the company to extend the expanded memory feature to free-tier users over the coming weeks, a capability previously restricted to premium subscribers.
To maintain user privacy and transparency, the platform is introducing a dedicated “Memory Summary” dashboard. Through this interface, users can easily review, modify, or delete specific bits of context the AI has stored, giving them granular control over what ChatGPT remembers about their preferences, work, and personal background.
