MIUI 14 is finally available for selected Xiaomi phones in India! Here’s Everything You Need

Xiaomi has recently made an announcement that MIUI 14 based on Android 13 is now available in India. Xiaomi 13 Pro, the company’s flagship smartphone, has already received the software update but other Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco smartphones will be getting the update in the coming days.

According to Xiaomi, MIUI 14 promises better notification management and application cleaning, along with introducing various new features like a Pixel-like object eraser, dual floating windows and enlarged folders. Xiaomi has also claimed to offer a more personalised and visually rich user experience with the new UI.

The software update will first be made available to Xiaomi 12 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11X Pro 5G, Mi 11T Pro, Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, Mi 11X, Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, Redmi K50i 5G, Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, and Redmi 11 Prime 5G. Xiaomi has promised that all of these phones will receive the update in the first quarter of 2023.

Here’s a list of 14 cool features that you should know and definitely try as well –

  1. Enlarged Folders

I frequently ponder why more smartphone manufacturers haven’t yet made this function available because it is so entertaining and practical. As implied by the name, MIUI 14 lets you enlarge any folder on the home page. There are two advantages to this: first, the enlarged folders are highlighted on the home screen and are simpler to find; second, you can touch any app directly to launch it without first opening the folder. You can use enlarged folders by holding down on any folder on the home screen, choosing edit folder, and then choosing between the enlarged and XXL versions.

  1. Ability to remove pre-installed apps

The latest update from Xiaomi, MIUI 14, is likely to be well received by Xiaomi users who have been troubled by pre-installed apps that can’t be removed. In the past, Xiaomi has tried to address this issue, but with MIUI 14, it has taken a significant step towards giving users more control. The new update allows users to remove almost all pre-installed apps, including Xiaomi’s own Mi Store and Xiaomi Service+ app. This feature is sure to please users who want to use their phones their way. With this level of control, MIUI 14 promises to be an instant fit among traditional Xiaomi users who have been longing for greater flexibility in the software.

  1. Pocket mode

Here is a feature called Pocket mode that probably ought to have been available sooner but is still useful. This function, which again is fairly self-explanatory, guards against accidental touches while your phone is in your pocket. From the Settings option, this can be turned on. Simply look for “no pocket dial” and turn it on.

  1. New wallpapers

Two small but noticeable visual alterations will follow. New backgrounds are the first of them. On MIUI 14, Xiaomi has added a total of six new backgrounds. The majority of them appear to be inspired by iPhone wallpapers, but having more choices is always beneficial.

  1. New settings menu

The latest MIUI 14 software has made a very subtle but effective change to the Settings menu, making it look cleaner and more visually appealing compared to its predecessor MIUI 13. The text and sub-text have lesser spacing between them, making it easier on the eyes while navigating through the menu. Additionally, a few settings options have been rearranged to make them more easily accessible to the user. While this change may seem small, it’s a welcome improvement for users who frequently access the Settings menu.

  1. Copy text from photo

Numerous brand-new camera and gallery functions are included in MIUI 14. The ability to copy words from any image is the first one I want to discuss. These features have previously been available on Samsung, Apple, and Google phones, so it’s encouraging to see them on Xiaomi devices as well. Essentially, you can copy the text from any image in the gallery and use it elsewhere thanks to this function. It helps you save lots of time.

  1. Protective Watermark

This new feature introduced in MIUI 14 by Xiaomi is a boon for content creators who are always on the lookout for ways to protect their content from being stolen or copied. Watermarking is a common practice to achieve this, but finding the perfect watermark and its placement can be a tedious and challenging task. However, with the new update, Xiaomi has made it much simpler. Users can now select the protective watermark option from the settings of any picture they wish to watermark, enter the desired text, and the phone automatically generates a watermark and applies it on the picture. This is a highly useful and underrated feature that will surely be appreciated by content creators.

  1. Erase objects

Xiaomi’s latest feature, Object eraser, is a highly useful addition that’s been seen on other premium smartphones from Samsung and Google. This feature allows users to effortlessly remove people, objects and shadows from any picture, making it a game-changer for content creators who want to protect their work. Xiaomi’s implementation of this feature is impressive, offering both manual and AI-powered options. The AI-powered options include ‘remove object’, ‘remove lines’, ‘remove people’ and ‘remove shadows from food’. Each of these options effectively delivers on its name, allowing users to achieve flawless results without much effort.

  1. Cutout feature

Cutout is yet another excellent photo-editing tool in MIUI 14. Any portrait image’s background is removed, and users are given the option to substitute it with pre-sets or other images of their choosing. You need to open the gallery, choose the three dots in the upper right corner, and then tap on Cutout to use this. Following that, you will be prompted to choose the image from which you want to remove the backdrop. The remaining steps are self-explanatory.

  1. Add captions

The Xiaomi phones now have access to a very sophisticated and effective video editor thanks to MIUI 14. There are more options than before, and you can now easily edit an entire video on your phone. The first function I want to discuss is the capability to add captions directly from the video editor software to any video. The choice is listed next to others for film editing. You can also add opening and closing titles to videos.

  1. Pro mode for videos

Xiaomi’s new MIUI 14 update brings a Pro mode for video editing on their Redmi and Xiaomi devices, and it’s a great feature for creators. The update includes many templates that add colours and music to videos, which is a great option for anyone looking to add some pizzazz to their creations. Additionally, there are options to add filters to recorded videos, change aspect ratios for different social media platforms, and much more. Overall, the video editing feature is a big plus for the new MIUI 14 update and adds great value for users who enjoy video content creation.

  1. Enhance/Compress video quality

You can also improve or reduce a movie’s quality using the new video editor in MIUI 14. So, to save room on the phone, you can capture a video in 4K, edit it, and export it in 1080p resolution. To get greater details, you can record a video in 1080p resolution and export it in 4K.

  1. New widgets

With MIUI 14, Xiaomi has also released new apps. Numerous others will be added later, even though some of these are already accessible in India. As an illustration, MIUI 14 includes a new gallery widget that can be added to the home page. The widget can be used as a carousel by adding pictures of your choosing.

  1. Dual floating windows

On cellphones, floating windows have long been a feature. Most high-end smartphones do. It is typically limited to a single moving window. However, MIUI 14 has now made it possible to operate two floating windows on top of one another. The supported still only works with a few applications, but it increases productivity and multitasking.
