Microsoft declares WordPad’s retirement

Microsoft WordPad, a basic text editor present in Windows since 1995, is reportedly facing discontinuation.

The news comes from a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Xeno, indicating that Microsoft will cease updating WordPad, and it will be removed in a future Windows release.

The exact timing of this release, likely Windows 12, remains unconfirmed but is speculated to arrive in late 2024.

Microsoft advises users to switch to Microsoft Word for rich text documents like .doc and .rtf files or use Notepad for plain text documents like .txt. Windows 12 is under development and expected to bring significant platform upgrades.
