MDN Recently Celebrated Its Tenth Birthday

Mozilla Developer Network recently celebrated its tenth birthday as it has reportedly completed a decade multi-lingual resource for Web documentation. In February 2005, a few members formed a team which apparently negotiated with AOL to use Netscape DevEdge materials and launched an open, community-built online resource for Web developers.

Mitchell Baker, CEO, Mozilla Foundations had made the announcement through a blog in the same month. However, on July 23, 2005 the original MDN Wiki site was unveiled which gradually grew and evolved. Currently, MDN has around four million users and 1000 volunteer editors per month who create and translate documentation, sample code, tutorials along with other learning resources for all open Web technologies including HTML, CSS and JavaScript, which has made the open Web rich as well as handy.

As of now, the resource comprises 34,500 documents with 13,200 pages in English and 21,200 translations in 42 locales. With an aim to inspire ideas and encourage collaboration, MDN provides useful explanations for coding practice to a huge base of Web developers ranging from hobbyists to full-time professionals.
