LG V30 2018 will be high on Vision and Voice AI, launch set for MWC

LG will be attending the Mobile World Congress later this month where the company is set to introduce the first of a suite of AI technologies for its smartphones. The company says that the new technology will be featured in a new version of LG V30 which will also be unveiled at MWC 2018. The upcoming flagship will come with enhanced AI camera and voice features called Vision AI and Voice AI, respectively.
As per past reports, the 2018 version of last years V30 flagship will likely be called the LG V30s. One of the AI-based features coming to the upcoming smartphone is Vision AI which the company says will add to the list of already impressive features that include dual lenses, wide-angle low-distortion lenses, and the all-glass Crystal Clear Lens. Vision AI will automatically analyse objects and recommend the best shooting mode among a choice of eight modes that include portrait, food, pet, landscape, city, flower, sunrise, and sunset. This is similar to what Huawei introduced with its Kirin 970 processor on the Mate 10 Pro.
Depending on the object in view, the camera will automatically adjust the angle of view, color, reflections, backlighting, and saturation levels. LG adds that if one is to take a photograph of a pasta, for example, Vision AI will detect the pasta and enable food mode, which will result in warmer colors and heightened sharpening to make the pasta look as appetizing in the image as possible. Vision AIs image recognition algorithm was developed with the help of over 100 million images analysed by LG and a partner. Over one thousand unique image categories were created for more accurate image analysis, resulting in better shooting mode recommendations, LG says.
By pointing the camera at an object, Vision AI will also be able to scan QR codes, perform an image search and provide shopping advice including where to purchase the it for the lowest price. LG will also add a new low-light shooting mode on the upcoming version of the LG V30 that will brighten up images in dim environments by a factor of two.
The other AI-based feature that will be introduced is Voice AI that will allow users to run apps and change settings through voice commands. Voice AI works in tandem with Google Assistant and comes with 32 exclusive voice commands, up from 23 in 2017. All users need to say is Ok, Google followed by any one of the 32 commands listed by LG.
While these features are all going to come baked into the 2018 LG V30 and future LG models, the company says some features will also be rolling out to older LG phones via OTA update depending on hardware and stability. Creating smarter smartphones will be our focus going forward and we are confident that consumers will appreciate the advanced user experience with the enhanced V30 that many have been asking and waiting for, said Ha Jeung-uk, senior vice president and business unit leader for LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
