Airtel updates Rs 93 pack with 28-day validity to take on Jio’s Rs 98 pack

Just days after Reliance Jio started offering a validity period of 28 days with its Rs 98 pack, Airtel too has increased the validity period of its Rs 93 tariff plan to 28 days. So far, Reliance Jio’s Rs 98 pack, a part of its Republic Day offer, was among the cheapest plans with almost a month-long validity. The Reliance Jio’s Rs 98 plan offers 2GB data total and has a validity of 28 days. It offers free voice calls and 300 SMSes.

Bharti Airtel’s Rs 93 pack now offers ‘unlimited local/STD calls’, free roaming, 100 SMS es per day and 1GB data for 28 days. Airtel’s same Rs 93 prepaid pack earlier offered unlimited calls (local, STD, and roaming calls), 1GB 3G/ 4G data, and 100 SMS per day with 10 days validity. So the big change here is the number of days validity. The same has been increased to 28 days from the earlier 10 days.
Here ‘unlimited local/STD calls’ have a limit of up to 250 minutes per day and 1,000 minutes per week. Airtel pre-paid customers who exhaust 1,000 minutes per week limit will be charged 10 paise per minutes.

In another development, Airtel is reportedly all set to sign an agreement with Star TV. The partnership will allow the company to distribute the network’s digital content through its Airtel TV app as well as offer a free subscription of its video-streaming app, HotStar. The new service will likely be available to the company’s select customers.

With this deal, Bharti Airtel appears to boost its revenue from data services by offering extra to high-paying customers.

In the past few months, India’s top telecom company has been aggressively building its content offerings through Airtel TV and its music streaming app. The company wants to expand its base of 4G customers as competiotion becomes ruthless in the telecom segment. Content is said to play a key differentiator for key players in the segment as per several analysts.
