Krafton India’s CEO, Sean Sohn, announces the development of new games specifically designed for Indian gamers

Krafton India, an offshoot of the Korean gaming company responsible for renowned games like Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and Road to Valor, recently hosted an International esports event in Delhi, pitting Indian teams against South Korean counterparts in the presence of a large audience at Bharat Mandapam. In an exclusive interview with Business Today, Krafton India’s CEO, Sean Sohn, provided insights into the company’s plans for India.

Sohn emphasized their event’s primary aim to exhibit the fun and excitement of their games, reaching the public, stakeholders, and government regulators. Notably, government officials observed the event, recognizing the potential for esports to become a mainstream activity.

Discussing gaming trends in India, Sohn noted the widespread enthusiasm for gaming and esports. He highlighted the accessibility and lower costs involved in gaming, promoting the rise of top players or heroes, making it more approachable and achievable for enthusiasts.

Krafton India’s long-term vision entails venturing into unexplored gaming territories for Indian players and assisting budding developers through mentorship programs. Sohn emphasized the slow yet positive direction of Indian government policies embracing esports, stating that different state dynamics and economic variations affect the pace of adoption. Despite challenges, he remains optimistic due to a noticeable change in government attitudes and their increased understanding of gaming’s role in society.

Moreover, Sohn acknowledged the impact of governmental policies on gaming, noting that certain regulations might impede market segments. He indicated that although change might be gradual, there’s a growing acknowledgment of gaming’s significance, even within bureaucratic systems.

Overall, Sohn indicated a forward-looking yet cautiously optimistic stance concerning gaming’s future in India and its intersection with government policies and market conditions.
