Intel has launched first Core M or Broadwell-Y Range Of processors!

ITVoice News: Intel has launched the first of their Core M or Broadwell-Y range of processors, as the company is trying hard to catch up with the tablet-specialist ARM processors. The launch was made at the IFA event in 2014, which was an exclusive show for consumer electronics and home appliances.

A host of devices were also launched at the IFA, that feature the Core M processor. This range of processors is tailor-made for 2-in-1 devices which include a tablet and a laptop. This processor is expected to lead to a family of processors which are enabled to transform the way mobile computing devices operate. The processor has been tested by Intel and the company found that the Core M has doubled the battery life of the device. It’s considered as Intel’s biggest generation-over-generation battery life improvement.

Intel_look_inside_reutersย The Core M is able to ย  ย compute twice as fast and ย it can also perform ย graphics computations ย upto seven times faster ย then the present ย processors. As claimed by ย Intel, Core M achieved a ย 1.5x compute ย performance and a 1.4x ย graphic performance, in ย comparison to a 4th Generation i5 processor. The battery life has also been improved by 20 per cent and it can also play videos for 8 hours. The new processor has a 50 per cent less package size and gives off 60 per cent lower heat. It operates at 4.5 watts and this may allow OEMs to design and produce sleek, fanless systems less than 9mm thin.

The devices, which can feature the latest processor, are, Acer Aspire Switch 12, Asus Zenbook UX305, Dell Latitude 13 7000, HP ENVY x2, Lenovo ThinkPad Helix and Toshiba (Product Name Unknown). This version will start from 2.0 GHz Intel Core M-5Y10/5Y10a processors and the highest performing one will be the 2.6 GHz Intel Core M-5Y70 processor. It will also be equipped with Intel vPro technology which has built-in security features to protect data, user identities and network access. Other features, supported in the Core M series are, HQ audio, Intel Wireless Display 5.0, Intel’s second-generation 802.11ac products and will also support wireless docking with WiGig from Intel in future.
