India’s Digital Push: PM Modi Welcomes AirTrunk’s Mammoth ₹3 Lakh Crore Data Center Investment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally welcomed a monumental investment proposal from global hyper-scale data center specialist AirTrunk, which plans to inject over ₹3 lakh crore ($30 billion) into India’s digital infrastructure ecosystem by 2030. Backed by major global institutional investors Blackstone and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), this massive financial commitment represents one of the largest foreign direct investments in India’s technology and infrastructure sectors to date.

The ambitious multi-year development program is designed to construct a massive 5 gigawatts (GW) of data center capacity across several strategic states. This infrastructure expansion is aimed at meeting the country’s skyrocketing demand for cloud computing resources, enterprise data management, and localized artificial intelligence processing.

Expressing strong support for the initiative, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that AirTrunk’s large-scale commitment perfectly aligns with the government’s vision of establishing India as a premier global hub for cloud services and AI innovation. Beyond expanding the nation’s technical capabilities, the multi-billion-dollar project is anticipated to act as a significant economic catalyst—generating thousands of specialized technology and construction jobs, boosting local supply chains, and driving sustainable green energy adoption to power the upcoming data facilities.
