The internet giant’s name is derived from ‘googol’, the mathematical term for numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros.
2. Amazon
Jeff Bezos always wanted his company name to begin with alphabet letter ‘A’. He thought world’s largest river was a great name. He hoped the company to grow as big as river someday.

3. Skype
The name, ‘Skype’ has a long story behind it. It was originally named as ‘Sky Peer-to-Peer’, then they renamed it as ‘Skyper’. Eventually ‘r’ was dropped to create the current name ‘Skype’.

4. Yahoo
Yahoo is a acronym for ‘Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle’. The name was violently used in Jonathan Swift’s ‘Gulliver’s Travels’.

Sony is derived from ‘sonus’, a latin word for sound. Japanese people use a slang expression – ‘sonny boy’, which means ‘smart, presentable young men’.

The company was originally called as ‘Kwanon’, which is a name of a Buddhist goddess. The company changed the name to ‘Canon’ in 1935.
