Google is potentially experimenting with a Discover Feed on its desktop homepage, currently available to a select group of users in India

Google is reportedly experimenting with adding its Discover Feed to the desktop homepage, a feature that has been available on Android mobile devices for some time. The Discover Feed, alongside the conventional search box, offers suggested content including news headlines, weather forecasts, sports scores, and stock updates. It was first introduced to the mobile homepage in the US back in 2018.

According to reports, the Discover Feed on Google’s desktop homepage provides news headlines, weather forecasts, sports scores, and stock updates for three different companies. Lara Levin, a spokesperson for Google, confirmed the change, stating that it is currently being tested with a limited number of users in India.

On Android, the Discover feed is displayed below the search box in Google’s mobile apps and appears on the left-most pane of the Home screens on certain Android devices. Like its Android counterpart, the desktop version of the Google Discover Feed also appears just below the search bar.

As google.com is one of the world’s most visited websites, any alterations to its homepage can have a significant impact on users. However, it appears that the feature is currently being tested with a restricted number of users.

Reports suggest that Google’s experimental interface bears a resemblance to what Microsoft offers on its Bing search engine, which also features an extensive array of news articles and additional information.

Google has introduced changes to its desktop homepage in the past, with trials involving widget-style cards that displayed a mix of news articles, weather forecasts, and stock data. However, the extent of the feature’s deployment remains uncertain, and it is not yet accessible in India.
