Google is reportedly developing a YouTube Music extension for Gemini, its proprietary AI-powered chatbot, which could enable users to conveniently search for and play their favorite songs while also discovering new music.

As per a recent report by Android Authority, this feature was initially discovered by Assemble Debug, a well-known Android enthusiast, who managed to activate the new YouTube Music extension within the Google app version 15.17.28.29.arm64.

Once activated, the YouTube Music extension on Gemini allowed users to seamlessly search for and play their preferred songs and playlists. Additionally, users could explore new music and even enjoy a personalized radio experience based on their mood. It appears that Gemini leverages data such as playlists, playback history, and user preferences sourced from their YouTube Music account to enhance the music discovery process.

The YouTube Music extension is prominently displayed on Gemini’s Extension page, offering users access to search results from YouTube and seamlessly redirecting them to the YouTube Music app upon selecting a search result. In cases where the YouTube Music app is not installed on the device, Gemini will automatically open the web version of the music service.

While the functionality of the YouTube Music extension is not yet active on Google Gemini, the report suggests that Google is actively working on its rollout. To provide a brief overview, Google’s AI chatbot already incorporates several useful extensions, including Flights, Maps, YouTube, and Hotels. Additionally, Google is reportedly developing new shortcuts for Gemini, allowing users to swiftly switch back to Google Assistant, deactivate Gemini Advanced, and toggle “Live prompts”.

In summary, Google’s efforts to introduce a YouTube Music extension for Gemini represent a significant advancement in enhancing the music streaming experience within its AI-powered chatbot ecosystem. By integrating seamless access to YouTube Music’s vast library of songs and personalized recommendations, Google aims to enrich users’ interactions with Gemini while further solidifying its position as a versatile and user-friendly AI assistant platform.
