Google a hazard to your privacy : Microsoft

Software giant Microsoft has claimed that Google reads all the emails that users sends or receives.

A campaign titled ‘Don’t get scroogled by Gmail’ was organised by Microsoft in which it said that Google checks out all the emails in order to dish out related advertisements.

Google-and-Microsoft

Microsoft urged users to switch to its own free email service outlook.com, claiming that it did not grab access to the content of the users in order to show ads and also asked the users to sign an online petition against Gmail to let Google know that reading personal email messages to sell ads was unacceptable.

Google clarified itself by saying that most of the Ads that they showed in Gmail, appeared next to an open email message and were related to the contents of the current email conversation or thread.”  Microsoft on its website Scroogled.com used one example about providing an ad which was about the details of divorce lawyers to a woman who emailed her friend about separation from her husband.

Google has not provided choice to the users to not to show their private emails to the company.

“We honour the privacy of our Outlook.com users, and we are concerned that Google violates that privacy every time an Outlook.com user exchanges messages with someone on Gmail. This campaign is as much about protecting Outlook.com users from Gmail as it is about making sure Gmail users know what Google’s doing” Microsoft said.

Google, however was not available to comment on the matter.
