element14 today announced availability of the Gizmo 2 DIY developer GIZMO-2-GSOCD9W-1.0platform from GizmoSphere, a non-profit development board community. Built on the award-winning AMD Embedded G-Series SoC, Gizmo 2 is a second-generation open source x86-based single board computer (SBC) with 85 GFLOPS performance, providing the power of a high-performance computer and the I/O capabilities of a microcontroller.

The Gizmo 2 is a powerful development board that features an open hardware design that can be easily customised. The board includes the AMD GX-210HA dual-core processor, combined on a single die with AMD Radeon HD 8210E discrete-class graphics, providing 85 GFLOPS compute performance while drawing only 9 watts. It is among the highest performing x86 development boards available, ideal for development projects that require great performance, and the ability to control external objects and take inputs from many sources such as sensors and the Internet. Its wealth of leading features and capabilities includes an HDMI dedicated port, extra PCIe, SD card slot for added mass storage and nonvolatile memory, an mSATA port for connecting SSDs and a microSD card slot. The Gizmo 2 can be used for a wide spectrum of development projects: embedded development, microcontroller applications, multi-core engineering, industrial control and automation, gaming systems, digital signage, medical, network appliances, and more.
