In this exclusive interview, Mr. Mukesh Bafna, Managing Director of Hi-Focus Electronics India, shares insights on the driving factors behind the rapid growth of the smart home security market, evolving consumer expectations, Hi-Focus’s innovative solutions, and the company’s vision to become a trusted global leader in intelligent security technology.
IT Voice– The global smart home security market is witnessing significant growth. What key factors do you believe are driving this rapid adoption of smart security systems?
Mukesh Bafna- The growth we are seeing in smart home security is driven by a powerful convergence of factors. Increasing urbanisation, rising disposable incomes, and heightened awareness around personal safety have made security a priority for Indian households and businesses alike. The proliferation of affordable smartphones and high-speed internet has made remote monitoring a practical reality for the average consumer. At the same time, the Government of India’s push through initiatives like Smart Cities Mission and Make in India has created a strong policy tailwind. Consumers today are no longer satisfied with passive surveillance. They want intelligent, connected systems that proactively protect their spaces. That shift in expectation is exactly where Hi-Focus has been positioned from the very beginning.
IT Voice– With increasing awareness about home safety, how are consumer expectations evolving in the smart home security segment?
Mukesh Bafna- Consumer expectations have evolved dramatically. A few years ago, the primary ask was simply ‘does the camera record clearly?’ Today, customers want to know: Can I view my home live from my phone? Will it alert me if someone enters my premises after hours? Can it recognise familiar faces? Can it integrate with my existing systems? People are moving from reactive to proactive security thinking. They want solutions that are intelligent, seamless, and easy to operate. Not just hardware on a wall. At Hi-Focus, we have responded to this evolution by building AI-powered analytics, cloud integration, and smart alert capabilities directly into our product ecosystem. The expectation bar is higher, and we believe that is a healthy challenge for any brand that is serious about innovation.
IT Voice– HiFocus has positioned itself strongly in the surveillance industry. What differentiates HiFocus solutions from other players in the market?
Mukesh Bafna- What truly sets Hi-Focus apart is that we are a Made in India brand with a genuine commitment to innovation, quality, and long-term client relationships. While many competitors are resellers of imported hardware, Hi-Focus has its own dedicated R&D division, assembles products locally, and holds global certifications including BIS-ER by STQC, ISO, CE, and FCC. We offer more than 1000 surveillance solutions across HD, IP, PTZ, AI-enabled cameras, biometrics, NVRs, and smart integrated systems, all backed by skilled professionals across sales, tech support, and after-sales teams. Our presence across 15+ Indian states ensures that clients receive consistent support no matter where they are. We do not just sell products. We build security ecosystems tailored to each client’s environment.
IT Voice– Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are transforming modern security systems. How is HiFocus leveraging these technologies in its surveillance solutions?
Mukesh Bafna- AI and ML are no longer the future of surveillance. They are the present, and Hi-Focus has been integrating these capabilities into our product line extensively. Our AI-powered surveillance solutions include facial recognition, intelligent motion detection, perimeter intrusion alerts, people counting, line crossing detection, ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition), missing object detection, target counting, and panoramic linkage, all powered by deep learning algorithms and edge computing. These capabilities allow our systems to move beyond passive recording into active threat identification. What excites me most is how these technologies are making security accessible and actionable. A facility manager at a hospital or a retail chain owner can now receive real-time, context-aware alerts rather than sifting through hours of footage after an incident has occurred.
IT Voice– Real-time monitoring has become a critical requirement today. How do HiFocus solutions help customers respond quickly to potential security threats?
Mukesh Bafna- Real-time response capability is central to how we design our solutions. Our IP cameras with cloud-integrated NVRs allow clients to monitor their premises live from anywhere in the world through their smartphones or desktop systems. Our AI-enabled cameras generate instant alerts for specific events, whether it is an intruder crossing a boundary, an unattended object, or an unauthorised face detected in a restricted zone. These alerts are pushed directly to the relevant stakeholders, enabling a swift response before an incident escalates. For critical infrastructure clients such as defence establishments, police departments, and power stations, where we have a strong track record, response speed can be the difference between prevention and damage. Our systems are engineered with that responsibility in mind.
IT Voice– Smart analytics such as facial recognition, behaviour analysis, and predictive monitoring are gaining importance. How do these technologies enhance security efficiency?
Mukesh Bafna- Smart analytics fundamentally shift the role of surveillance from documentation to prevention. Facial recognition enables access control without physical intervention and can flag known threats in real time. Behaviour analysis can detect unusual patterns, such as someone loitering in a restricted area, a crowd forming unexpectedly, or erratic movement in a monitored zone, and trigger alerts before an incident occurs. Predictive monitoring, powered by machine learning, can analyse historical patterns to anticipate risk windows. For our clients in healthcare, retail, education, banking, and smart city projects, these capabilities translate directly into operational efficiency. Security teams can be deployed more strategically rather than monitoring screens manually around the clock. At Hi-Focus, we see smart analytics not just as a security tool, but as an intelligence layer that helps organisations make better decisions.
IT Voice– HiFocus offers a wide portfolio of products ranging from CCTV cameras to smart home devices. Which product segments are currently witnessing the highest demand?
Mukesh Bafna- Across our portfolio, we are seeing exceptionally strong demand in three areas. First, AI-enabled IP cameras, as awareness grows around intelligent surveillance, clients are actively upgrading from traditional analog systems to smart IP solutions with built-in analytics. Second, cloud-integrated NVR systems, as the ability to access and manage recordings remotely has become a non-negotiable requirement, especially for multi-site businesses and enterprises. Third, biometric access control systems, where post-pandemic, there is a strong preference for contactless, identity-verified access in corporate, healthcare, and educational environments. Beyond these, our video door phones and hybrid recorders continue to see steady demand from residential and SME segments. The common thread across all high-demand categories is intelligence. Customers want security that does more than record.
IT Voice– Beyond home security, how are HiFocus solutions supporting public safety, law enforcement, and crowd monitoring?
Mukesh Bafna- This is an area I am particularly proud of. Hi-Focus has a strong and verified track record in critical public infrastructure. Our solutions are deployed across Indian Air Force stations in Rajasthan, Delhi, Udhampur, and Jodhpur, the Indian Army, INS Valsura and INS Khukri naval establishments, Tamil Nadu Police, Delhi Police, and district courts. We have contributed to election security across India’s election booths and supported smart city projects in Thanjavur, Jaipur, Neyveli, Vellore, and beyond. For crowd monitoring and public safety applications, our PTZ cameras with panoramic linkage and people counting analytics give law enforcement agencies real-time situational awareness across large public spaces. This depth of deployment in high-stakes environments is a testament to the reliability and trustworthiness of Hi-Focus technology.
IT Voice– With growing demand for smart homes and connected devices, what opportunities do you see for integrated security ecosystems?
Mukesh Bafna- The opportunity in integrated security ecosystems is enormous and, in my view, still largely untapped in India. As homes and businesses become more connected through IoT, smart locks, video door phones, lighting systems, and environmental sensors, the role of a surveillance system evolves from a standalone device to the central nervous system of an intelligent space. At Hi-Focus, we are already building towards this with our smart integrated systems that connect cameras, biometrics, NVRs, access control, and remote monitoring into a single, manageable platform. The next frontier is deeper IoT integration, edge intelligence, and cybersecurity-enhanced surveillance, ensuring that as systems become more connected, they also remain protected from digital threats. For businesses and homeowners who want true peace of mind, the integrated ecosystem is the answer.
IT Voice– How is HiFocus ensuring innovation and product development to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving security technology market?
Mukesh Bafna- Innovation is not a department at Hi-Focus. It is a culture. Our dedicated R&D division continuously evaluates emerging technologies, monitors global security trends, and translates those insights into product enhancements and new solutions. We integrate deep learning algorithms, edge computing, and IoT-enabled architectures into our development pipeline.
IT Voice– Looking ahead, what is your long-term vision for HiFocus in the smart security and surveillance industry?
Mukesh Bafna- My long-term vision for Hi-Focus is to be the most trusted and technologically advanced Made in India surveillance brand, not just within India, but recognised globally. We want to be the brand that comes to mind whenever someone thinks about intelligent, reliable, and ethical security technology. In the near term, we are focused on deepening our Pan-India footprint, expanding our AI and IoT capabilities, and growing our presence in defence, smart cities, and critical infrastructure. Over the longer horizon, I see Hi-Focus playing a meaningful role in shaping India’s digital security landscape, contributing to a safer, smarter, and more connected nation. We started this journey with a clear purpose: to enhance people’s sixth sense of security. That purpose remains unchanged, and it will continue to drive every product we build and every relationship we nurture.
