Microsoft Healthcare & Life Sciences Partner of the Year Award recognizes truly outstanding work in delivering solutions and services built on Microsoft platforms that positively impact mutual customers across the globe. Emids was selected as a finalist (runner-up) for demonstrating how innovations in healthcare and life sciences can bring Microsoft technology to life and enable digital transformation for customers.

The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre’s RAAM (Rapid Access Addiction Medicine) service is an innovative walk-in clinic that provides fast access to care for clients with substance use problems thereby improving outcomes and reducing opioid- and alcohol-related emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and deaths. Responding to both the pandemic and growing needs across a vast region, The Royal shifted to a virtual walk-in model, replicating the experience of an in-person visit through technology. Using several Azure cloud services and in collaboration with The Royal, Emids co-designed a digital technology solution that replicates the key components of a RAAM clinic. This new solution, named RAAM InQ Digital Front Door, improves access to care, ensures seamless interdisciplinary care, and expands regional reach to provide care wherever the client is at and whenever they need it.

Speaking about the award-winning project, Dr. Kim Corace, Vice President of Innovation and Transformation and Clinical Programming & Research Lead (Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders Program), The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, said, “Our RAAM Digital Front Door is one of the easiest and most accessible health solutions in Ontario. Emids’ substantial technical expertise combined with the health care expertise of The Royal, our community partners and people with lived expertise have enabled this important step forward in breaking down barriers to care for individuals with substance use health needs. This solution has helped expand regional reach of The Royal’s clinic by 20%, serving rural communities and individuals across the province and substantially increasing access to personalised care.”
