The primary objective of this agreement is to pioneer the creation of a state-of-the-art 140GHz Fully Integrated Transmitter and Receiver Module tailored for applications pertinent to 6G and future generations of telecommunications. The distinguishing aspect of this system lies in its ability to generate, transmit, and integrate Terahertz (THz) waves onto a single chip. This breakthrough technology promises to significantly reduce the size, weight, and power consumption of systems, rendering it suitable for integration into portable devices such as smartphones, laptops, and wearables. The anticipated chip is projected to support data rates of several gigabits per second, facilitating high-speed data transfer either within a chip or between chips.

The signing ceremony for this agreement was attended by esteemed individuals including Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT, and representatives from IIT Roorkee such as Prof. Sai Ramudu Meka, Associate Dean (Corporate Interaction), and Prof. Darshak Bhatt, Assistant Professor. Directors from C-DOT, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Dalela, and Ms. Shikha Srivastava, were also present, highlighting the significance of this collaboration.

During the event, representatives from IIT Roorkee expressed their unwavering commitment to contributing to the advancement of next-generation communication technologies, aligning with the vision outlined by the Prime Minister for a developed India by 2047. They also extended their gratitude to C-DOT for providing this opportunity for research collaboration, which serves to bolster cutting-edge research capabilities and infrastructure in the telecom sector.

Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT, emphasized the transformative potential of the technology being developed, stressing its ability to drastically reduce system size, weight, and power consumption. He highlighted the importance of domestically designed and developed 6G technologies in realizing the objectives of the ‘Bharat 6G Mission’ and fostering indigenous innovation in the telecommunications sector.

Both C-DOT and IIT-Roorkee reiterated their shared vision for the successful completion of this project, emphasizing its potential to drive the development of ultra-fast, low-latency 6G networks. They underscored the far-reaching impact this initiative could have on various industry sectors, signaling a significant step forward in India’s technological advancement in telecommunications.
