Apple comes up with iOS 16.5 before WWDC

Apple has launched the newest operating system update of iOS 16.5, which can be checked through iPhone’s Settings > General > Software update, from there click on the ‘Install Now’ button to update your iPhone to iOS 16.5 and you are good to go. As the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) 2023 is just around the corner i.e., to be organized next month on June 5th, Apple coming up with iOS 16.5 and iPad 16.5 is a statement that the brand is announcing itself on the big stage for this year, also this could be the imminent update before the iOS 17.

Some notable features in this update are -:

  • In iOS 16.5, a Pride Celebration wallpaper is added for the Lock Screen, honoring the LGBTQ+ community and culture.
  • Additionally, Apple enhances Apple News by introducing scorecards in the Sports tab.
  • Furthermore, Spotlight and Apple Car Play receive bug fixes in iOS 16.5.

Moreover, in Apple News, My Sports score and schedule cards will lead users to game pages for in-depth information on specific matches. Persistent Navigation Bar in Apple News – another significant change in Apple News makes the bottom navigation bar persistent, so you’ll see it even when you’re reading an article now. The Suggest More and Suggest Less buttons have been consolidated and relocated to the top bar as a single button called “Suggest More or Less.” Liking or disliking something now requires an additional step of tapping the new button and selecting either “Suggest More” or “Suggest Less” from the menu.

The problem of Podcasts not loading in CarPlay has been resolved, along with the issue of Screen Time settings possibly resetting or not syncing across devices have also been fixed. The iOS 16.5 beta initially included a new Siri command for initiating and ending screen recording, which was later removed in subsequent beta versions and ultimately excluded from the final release of iOS 16.5. The new features in iOS 17 are still uncertain, but Apple might introduce privacy-focused features as they typically do.
