In the backdrop of the annual World Economic Forum at Davos, leaders in the cybersecurity domain discussed the formidable challenges faced by law enforcement agencies, particularly in light of the ever-expanding realm of cybercrime. INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock emphasized the ongoing struggle, attributing it to the pervasive influence of cutting-edge technologies such as AI and deepfakes.

Stock pointed out that law enforcement agencies worldwide are grappling with a crisis spurred by the escalating volume of cybercrime. Despite efforts to raise awareness about fraud, he noted a paradoxical trend where increased vigilance resulted in the discovery of more fraud cases. According to Stock, the prevalence of cyber-related crime is reaching unprecedented levels, propelled by the multitude of devices connected through the internet. He stated, “Crime only knows one direction, up. The more we are raising awareness, the more cases you discover. Most cases have an international dimension.”
