State-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has officially expanded its wireless broadband portfolio with the introduction of a new high-speed plan for its Bharat AirFibre service. Aimed at delivering high-speed internet connectivity to rural and semi-urban areas where traditional fiber-optic deployment remains a challenge, the newly launched flagship tier offers up to 200 Mbps download and upload speeds.
Massive Data Cap and Fair Usage Policy
The standout feature of the new premium AirFibre plan is its expansive monthly data allowance. Subscribers will receive 5,000 GB (5TB) of high-speed data every month. This massive data allocation is designed to comfortably support data-heavy households, allowing for seamless multi-device 4K streaming, large file downloads, online gaming, and remote workflows.
In line with standard industry practices, the plan operates under a Fair Usage Policy (FUP). Once a subscriber exhausts the initial 5TB high-speed data limit before the end of the billing cycle, the internet connection will not be disconnected. Instead, the speed will be throttled down to a lower threshold, allowing users to maintain unlimited basic connectivity for essential tasks like web browsing, messaging, and email access without incurring data overage charges.
Complete Entertainment Package and Unlimited Calling
To position the service as a comprehensive home entertainment and communication solution, BSNL is bundling extensive value-added benefits with the plan. Subscribers will receive a complimentary landline connection that offers unlimited nationwide calling to any network across India.
Furthermore, the premium tier includes a bundled subscription to a suite of popular Over-The-Top (OTT) entertainment platforms. While the exact lineup of services varies by region and circle availability, the package typically includes premium access to major streaming apps, eliminating the need for customers to purchase independent digital entertainment subscriptions.
Bridging the Digital Divide with AirFibre Technology
Unlike standard BSNL Bharat Fiber (FTTH), which requires physical fiber-optic cables to be routed directly into a customer’s premises, the Bharat AirFibre service utilizes line-of-sight wireless technology. The system beams high-speed internet signals from nearby BSNL telecom towers directly to a dedicated receiver installed at the customer’s location.
This infrastructure strategy allows BSNL to rapidly deploy reliable, high-speed broadband to remote regions, villages, and outer-suburban residential pockets that lack traditional telecom cabling infrastructure. This latest 200 Mbps plan marks BSNL’s most aggressive push yet to deliver fiber-like speeds over a purely wireless local loop.
