In a landmark move set to reshape India’s digital future, Visakhapatnam is poised to become a major center for artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure with the launch of the Google Cloud India AI Hub, a massive project backed by an estimated $15 billion investment.
The ambitious initiative was highlighted during its groundbreaking ceremony, where Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described the project as a significant milestone in India’s journey toward becoming a global technology leader. He emphasized that the development strengthens India’s role as a trusted partner in electronics manufacturing, digital innovation, and next-generation infrastructure.
The AI hub is being developed through a strategic partnership involving Google Cloud, Adani ConneX, and Airtel Nxtra. The project will include a 1-gigawatt hyperscale AI data center, making it one of the largest technology infrastructure investments in India’s history. Nearly 600 acres of land have been allocated across Turluvada, Rambilli, and Adavivaram in Andhra Pradesh for the development.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has positioned the project as a transformational step for the state’s economy, noting that it will help shift Visakhapatnam toward a high-tech, innovation-led future. The initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities, attract global investments, and establish the city as a key node in India’s AI and cloud ecosystem.
Industry experts believe the project could significantly enhance India’s competitiveness in AI-driven services, cloud computing, and large-scale data infrastructure. With subsea cable connectivity and advanced digital ecosystems planned around the hub, Visakhapatnam is being envisioned as a strategic gateway for global technology operations.
As India accelerates its AI ambitions, the Google Cloud India AI Hub marks a defining chapter in the country’s digital transformation story—placing Visakhapatnam firmly on the map as a future-ready innovation destination.
