India Set to Host ICANN85: NIXI and ICANN Sign Historic Agreement for Mumbai Meet

In a significant move for global internet governance, Dr. Devesh Tyagi, CEO of the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), and Shri Samiran Gupta, Vice President of Stakeholder Engagement and Managing Director – APAC at ICANN, have formally signed the Hosting Agreement for ICANN85. The prestigious international meeting is scheduled to be held in Mumbai.
The agreement was signed in the distinguished presence of Shri S Krishnan, IAS, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Chairman of NIXI, along with Ms. Sally Costerton, Senior Advisor to the President & SVP of Global Stakeholder Engagement at ICANN.

The ceremony was further graced by Shri Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary, MeitY & Director of NIXI, and Shri Amitabh Singhal, Board Member of ICANN. Other key representatives present included Santhosh Thampy, Sameer Gahlot, Rajiv Kumar, and Yash Agarwal, highlighting the collaborative effort under the Digital India Programme to strengthen India’s role in the global internet ecosystem.
Hosting ICANN85 in Mumbai underscores India’s growing influence in digital policy and its commitment to a secure, stable, and unified global internet. This partnership between NIXI and ICANN sets the stage for a landmark event that will bring together international stakeholders to discuss the future of the internet.
