Exclusive Interview with Mrs. Anupama Bhat, Founder & CEO, Miraii.ai – Redefining Senior Safety with AI-Powered Wearable Innovation

In this exclusive conversation, Mrs. Anupama Bhat shares how a deeply personal experience inspired the creation of Miraii.ai and its groundbreaking AI Voice Companion Smart Ring. She discusses how AI-driven fall prediction, intuitive design, and privacy-first engineering are transforming senior safety and preventive healthcare. With an ambitious roadmap ahead, Miraii.ai is poised to reshape eldercare through empathetic, intelligent, and accessible wearable technology.

IT  Voice- What inspired you to create Miraii.ai and venture into the intersection of health technology, AI, and wearable innovation?

Anupama Bhat- The spark really came from a very personal moment. When both my parents suffered a fall at home while alone, I remember feeling completely helpless. That incident made me realise how vulnerable seniors are when they’re by themselves, and it stayed with me. Over time, that feeling turned into a strong need to build something truly meaningful — something that blends deep tech with empathy. That’s how Miraii.ai was born.

IT Voice- Could you tell us more about the AI Voice Companion Smart Ring—what makes it unique and how it stands apart in the wearable tech ecosystem?

Anupama Bhat- Our ring is designed around one core idea – seniors shouldn’t have to “learn” technology to stay safe. What makes it truly unique is that it doesn’t just detect falls, it actually predicts them and gives a split-second warning. It’s small, non-intrusive, has an intuitive SOS button, and works through simple vibrations instead of screens or complex interfaces. We now have two product lines: one is our fall-detection smart ring with an SOS button, and the other is an AI voice-companion smart ring that can talk back to you, answer questions, and act like a personal assistant – almost like speaking to a friend. It can converse about your day, your health, or anything you’d normally chat about with AI, helping combat loneliness for seniors and even being useful for anyone who wants a supportive, conversational companion. The usability came directly from listening to consumers, understanding when they face the highest risk, and building something they’re actually comfortable wearing.

IT Voice- How does AI enhance the capabilities of your smart ring beyond traditional health tracking devices?

Anupama Bhat- AI is the heart of our product. Instead of just reporting a fall after it happens, our model anticipates risky movements and alerts the user before the fall occurs. That shift from “response” to “prevention” is what truly changes everything, especially when it comes to safeguarding senior citizens who value both independence and security. As more seniors use the device, our system continuously learns from real-world movement patterns, allowing the model to become smarter, faster, and more accurate over time.

To strengthen this innovation further, we have applied for three patents covering Miraii.ai’s unique smart ring features — including our AI voice companion built into the ring, advanced AI-powered fall prediction technology, and an SOS button seamlessly integrated into the smart ring. Together, these features empower seniors with real-time assistance, proactive protection, and a level of personal safety that feels effortless and intuitive.

IT Voice- As a technology leader, how do you balance advanced engineering with product aesthetics and user comfort?

Anupama Bhat- Balancing engineering with comfort is something I’m very intentional about. At Miraii.ai, we always start with the user – in our case, senior citizens who may not be comfortable with complicated or bulky tech. That’s actually what pushed us to move from a wristband to a ring. We realised through real feedback that overnight comfort matters, and most falls happen at night. From an engineering perspective, making the ring sleek, compact, and still capable of housing the sensors and an accessible SOS button was one of the toughest challenges we faced. But for me, it all comes down to a simple question: Will a senior genuinely enjoy wearing this every day without feeling conscious or burdened?

IT Voice- How do you see AI-powered wearables transforming preventive healthcare and daily wellness habits in the coming years?

Anupama Bhat- I think wearables will move from simply tracking data to actively preventing risks. That’s where the real impact lies. Instead of telling you what went wrong, devices will warn you before something happens, especially for vulnerable groups like senior citizens. This shift can drastically reduce emergency response time, hospitalisations, and overall healthcare costs, while giving people the confidence to live independently.

IT Voice- What have been some of the biggest technical or regulatory challenges you’ve faced while developing Miraii.ai’s products?

Anupama Bhat- Perfecting the mechanical design was one of the toughest engineering challenges – making something tiny, comfortable, and still functional is not easy. On the AI side, reducing false alerts while keeping accuracy high took countless iterations. We also had to make practical choices, like avoiding 5G because it drains the battery. And since we’re in health-tech, every step requires careful validation to ensure reliability and safety.

IT Voice- With wearables collecting sensitive health data, how does Miraii.ai ensure data privacy and ethical AI usage?

Anupama Bhat- For us, simplicity and safety go hand in hand. We’ve deliberately kept the system lightweight – Bluetooth pairing, no unnecessary data flow, and clear user control. Since the goal is real-time safety, not extensive data logging, the model focuses only on essential movement patterns needed for fall prediction. It’s important to me that senior citizens feel protected, not monitored.

IT Voice- What is your strategy for expanding Miraii.ai’s footprint—both in India and globally—in an increasingly competitive wearable market?

Anupama Bhat- Our vision is global, but our approach starts with strong validation. We’re currently discussing a pilot with Primus Living to test the device at scale in a senior citizen living community. Programs like QWEIN and the Britannia Marie Gold HerStartup platform have also given us visibility and strategic networks. From here, it’s about refining the product, launching an affordable wristband variant, and expanding through partnerships that help us reach seniors across different income segments.(From here, it’s about refining the smart ring further, enhancing its AI-driven capabilities, and expanding through partnerships that help us reach seniors across different income segments.

IT Voice- As a female technologist and entrepreneur, what advice would you give to women aspiring to lead in AI and product innovation?

Anupama Bhat- Honestly, the biggest thing I’ve learned is the importance of building your network and seeking mentorship. It really does open doors you didn’t even know were there. As woman in deep tech, credibility and funding can be real hurdles, and I’ve felt that firsthand. Programs like QWEIN , NSRCEL and Britannia Marie Gold HerStartup Show  helped me bridge that gap and connect with the right people. And above all, I’d say — stay consistent. Progress doesn’t always look dramatic; most of it is slow, sometimes even invisible. But when you keep showing up, it compounds in ways you only realise later.

IT Voice- What’s next for Miraii.ai? Can we expect more AI-integrated wellness products or ecosystem-level innovations from your team?

Anupama Bhat- Absolutely. Our roadmap is quite ambitious. We’re adding features like heart rate monitoring, pill reminders, stress and sleep tracking — all within the same compact ring. We’re also working on a more accessible wristband version so that the solution reaches a wider audience. Right now, our focus is on strengthening and expanding the smart ring itself, ensuring it becomes an all-in-one, accessible solution for senior safety and wellness. But long term, I want Miraii.ai to contribute to India’s eldercare ecosystem in a meaningful way, not just through products but through preventive, technology-enabled care.

IT Voice- How did the overall Britannia Marie Gold HerStartup Show contribute to your journey as an entrepreneur?

Anupama Bhat- The Britannia Marie Gold HerStartup OTT Show Season 2 experience was truly special. It wasn’t just about the ₹10 lakh grant,  though that did help us move from prototype to production – it was the validation and visibility that mattered. The programme genuinely supports women-led ventures and gives them a platform to shine. For me, it was a reminder that perseverance pays off, and those moments of encouragement keep you going during the tougher phases of the journey.
