WhatsApp Launches Long-Awaited Native iPad App with Full Multitasking Support

After years of anticipation and limited beta access, WhatsApp has officially launched its native app for iPad, bringing a full-featured messaging experience tailored to Apple’s tablet ecosystem. Announced on Monday, the Meta-owned platform now supports multitasking capabilities such as Stage Manager and Split View, alongside full-screen support designed specifically for iPad users.

A Native Experience, Built for iPad
The new WhatsApp for iPad app offers a dual-pane interface that takes advantage of the tablet’s larger display. The chat list appears on the left side, while individual chat windows open on the right, allowing for easier navigation and a more desktop-like experience.

Users can make voice and video calls with up to 32 participants, share their screens, and use both front and rear cameras—mirroring much of the functionality found on the iPhone and Android versions of the app.

Enhanced Multitasking and Productivity Tools
Meta has designed the app to fully support Apple’s multitasking features. With Stage Manager, the app remains centered on screen while allowing access to recently used apps on the left for seamless task switching. Split View and Slide Over are also supported, enabling users to run WhatsApp alongside other apps, enhancing productivity.

The app also works with peripherals such as the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, making it ideal for users who rely on their iPads for work and communication.

Privacy and Cross-Device Sync
Like its counterparts, WhatsApp for iPad uses end-to-end encryption to protect chats and calls. The app leverages Meta’s multi-device technology, allowing messages, media, and settings to stay synced across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Users can also lock individual chats using Face ID or a PIN for added security.

A Frequently Requested Addition
Meta acknowledged that a native iPad app has been one of the most requested features from users. With this rollout, WhatsApp strengthens its presence across Apple devices and provides a seamless experience for iPad users looking to stay connected.

The launch comes as WhatsApp continues to evolve across platforms, with upcoming updates like a potential “Chat Media Hub” for WhatsApp Web also in the works.
