2016 WILL BE A KEY YEAR FOR SDN: AVAYA

avayaSDN adoption is driven by simplification and the ability to respond quickly to changing business requirements
The year 2016 is going to be a key one for Software-Defined Networks (SDN), according to networking company, Avaya.
The firm has created a specialist industry certification program, the Avaya Certified Expert Fx (ACE-Fx) program. The company claims to be the first to bring to the market an SDN-focused certification and training program. The program is delivered through a five-day, hands-on workshop and exam held at Avaya facilities around the world.
Avaya described SDN as a journey that involves different technology aspects. That journey has already been started by many organisations in the region and 2016 is the year when we see the acceleration in that.
It claimed SDN and peripheral developments are fundamentally altering the value network of the industry as value creation moves from traditional networking products to software solutions.
The key trends driving SDN adoption, according to Avaya, are simplification and the ability to respond quickly to changing business requirements. The firm added that the need to extend new services and applications to sites; trends like bring-your-own-device (BYOD); and Internet of Things (IoT) integration are going to accelerate SDN adoption.
The key vertical sectors leading SDN adoption are service providers, financial institutions and government organisations, closely followed by healthcare and education, the firm said.
These sectors are said to be at the forefront of adoption as they have multiple campuses, dynamic requirements and a constant need to improve mobility and deliver new applications and services. However, the company warned taking full advantage of SDN required a non-traditional approach and different skills in the IT organisation.
