Smartphone To Unlock Hotel Room_IT Voice Till date, smartphones were getting used to check in into flights, select their seats and as a boarding pass too. Now hotels are also entering the smart club of smartphones soon. On Monday, a new technology was rolled out by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide which will allow guests enter rooms with their smartphones and it’s available at Aloft, Element and W Hotels worldwide, as of now. Later the technology will be expanded to 140 more properties of these brands by next year. The system was first announced in January. In an official statement, CEO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Frits van Paasschen shared his excitement to become the first one in the industry to launch this kind of technology.

Another hotel chain, Hilton Worldwide, has also acknowledged plans for mobile room keys and the system will be launched by 2015-end. The service will be available in four of its brands – Hilton, Waldorf Astoria, Conrad and Canopy. There are some other hotel companies too which are planning to streamline the check-in process. Last year Marriott International launched the ability to check in through its app and Inter Continental Hotels Group is also its express check-in process for 60 hotels. The new app by Starwood uses a Bluetooth data connection to communicate. Each hotel room needs a new lock to communicate with phones.
