Xiaomi Has Accounced To Launch Of Mi Band In India

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Band last year in China alongside the Mi 4, and the company has hinted more than once that it is planning on bringing the wearable to India. We may finally have a better idea on when the Mi Band will launch in India.

Xiaomi-Mi-BandHinting on the possible launch of the product, Xiaomi India’s lead product manager Jai Mani, addressed the audience via the Mi Forum. Mani said, “ We’re currently testing Mi Band and plan to sell it in India as soon as we complete the update to MIUI 6 for our devices. Mi Band requires Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) which is supported by Android versions 4.3+. The MIUI 5 build on the Note 3G and Redmi 1S is on Android 4.2.2, so we want to get those devices updated to MIUI 6 before we launch the Mi Band.

MIUI 6 is in the process of rolling out for Note 4G and Mi 3 right now and we plan to update the Note 3G and Redmi 1S by late March/April. That means that you should see Mi Band launch in March/April.” Xiaomi had shared the timeline of MIUI 6.0 rollout in the country, on the launch of their latest Mi 4 smartphone in India. The Xiaomi Mi 3 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G will get MIUI 6.0 update this month, while the Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3G will get their dose of update sometime next month.

Xiaomi Mi Band was unveiled in China in July last year. The company managed to sell over a million Mi Bands in just three months after the launch. This kind of sale is not a surprise particularly looking at the price of the device. The Xiaomi Mi Band is priced at RMB 79, that amounts to Rs 760 approximately.
